ABOUT US
Cooperstown Environmental LLC is an environmental engineering and
consulting firm based in Andover, Massachusetts. Our work with contaminated
properties under the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP) regulations, paired
with our finance experience, has allowed us to develop a niche as the leading
experts in the Brownfields Tax Credit program.
Our mission is to help our clients to
recover money spent to investigate and clean up contamination. Clients for whom
we have successfully recovered money under the Massachusetts Brownfields Tax
Credit program include mill owners, gasoline station operators, small
businesses, real estate trusts, commercial property owners including residential
developments, developers, family-owned businesses, and others. We are currently
working with these types of clients as well as not-for-profit organizations,
retail chains, colleges and universities, and economic development agencies on
other projects. Our efforts have resulted in millions of dollars of recoveries
from past spending.
Our work has been performed directly on
behalf of owners, company employees, tenants and lessees, and through
accountants and lawyers. We have been involved in reviewing completed projects
as far back as 1999, projects in process, and consulted on prospective
developments.
Accountants and financial officers
typically are not experts in the intricacies of the engineering world or the
Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP). Engineers and LSPs often do not focus on
or are unaware of the tax implications of a project. Drawing on our expertise in
both the environmental/engineering fields and accounting and financial realms,
we bridge this divide and can identify opportunities where others may not. Many
of our clients had been advised that they did not or would not qualify for this
tax credit, yet we were successful in recovering funds.
James T. Curtis, Executive Vice President
of Cooperstown Environmental LLC, is a Registered Professional
Engineer (P.E.) and a Licensed Site Professional (LSP) in Massachusetts. He is
also Chief Financial Officer of Curtis Woodlands LLC, an owner and manager of
timberlands in New York State. He holds degrees from Princeton and Northeastern
University in Civil Engineering and has completed coursework in Real Estate
Finance and Investments at MIT’s Sloan School of Management.
